Still technically celebrating its
50th birthday, the company has recently secured some major
orders including a contract from United Utilities to supply
specially adapted Mercedes-Benz Unimogs and Axors.
Two Unimog U5000Ls and the two Axors - all mounted with
Hiab cranes - are already in service, with a third currently
being built and scheduled for delivery soon. All
the vehicles will be involved in the construction and maintenance
of overhead power lines, covering an area from the Midlands
to the Scottish borders.
United Utilities was originally a customer of Londonderry
Garage's service department and was so impressed with the
company's problem-solving approach they started discussions
about supplying these "one-off" vehicles.
Charles Pugh, Londonderry Garage's product sales manager
for Hiab, said: "These are completely bespoke vehicles
and fitting in all the equipment certainly posed us a challenge
- I am delighted with the results. Looking ahead,
we are discussing with United Utilities fitting a MEWP personnel
basket to the Hiab to add even more operational flexibility." |
